Commitment to a Healthy Planet

Beyond the Bath

Watching her play in the dirt and run around with friends, you wonder who your little one will be when she’s older. You want her to grow up in a world where people take care of one another and the earth that we share.

For generations at JOHNSON’S®, we’ve watched our own families grow, and we have the same concerns and dreams. So we made a commitment to use our resources to care for families and the environment – around the world – helping to shape a sustainable, healthy planet now and for the future.

Healthy Families

Through volunteer time, financial donations and skill sharing programs, we support happy, healthy babies and their families all around the world.

Some of the programs we’re involved with include:

JOHNSON’S® partners with Save the Children, on international efforts to provide healthcare, aid, and education to children living in communities affected by crisis or poverty.

Millennial Development Goals - In 2010, JOHNSON’S® along with our parent company, Johnson & Johnson, answered the United Nation’s (UN) call to save the lives of women and children and improve their health and well-being. This call to action, titled  Every Woman Every Child , supported the UN’s Millennium Development Goals 4, 5 and 6. Our company pledged to support these health-related Goals with a comprehensive, five-year commitment to reach as many as 120 million women and children a year by 2015 by working with partners in areas such as midwifery education and mHealth. Johnson & Johnson met this goal a year early, and estimates reveal that we exceeded this commitment in 2015. As the UN rolls out the new Sustainable Development Goals this year, we will continue our focus on the health and well-being of women, children and families worldwide.

Our Babies Will Inherit the Planet

We all want to leave our children with a healthy planet. JOHNSON’S® is committed to doing its part to ensure an environmentally stable and secure world for our children as they grow.

With 9 billion people expected to be living in the world by 2050, and natural resources already being consumed faster than the planet can replenish, caring for the planet that cares for us has never been more important.

Healthy Environment
We join our parent company, Johnson & Johnson, in taking part in programs that ensure an environmentally stable and secure world where our little ones can grow.

EARTHWARDS®
By 2020, our goal is to have all new JOHNSON’S® products be Earthwards® recognized, meaning that they will meet higher science-based environmental standards across at least three of seven categories: materials, packaging, energy, water, waste, innovation, and social impacts.

CARE TO RECYCLE™
Our products are mostly used in the bathroom – where there isn’t often a recycling bin. CARE TO RECYCLE™ helps raise awareness around the importance of recycling the material from this small room that is responsible for a large amount of plastic waste!

Our Safety & Care Commitment
Assessing Environmental Impact  - Since many of our products are washed off the body into the local waste water systems, which then feed into the broader water supply, we need to understand how our products interact with these environments.

Using a tool called GAIA—Global Aquatic Ingredient Assessment™, we score each ingredient against these three criteria:

  • How long the ingredient remains in the water

  • How the ingredient may build up over time

  • How, if at all, this ingredient could affect aquatic life

This score helps us make better choices when we review or create new products.
